I recently discovered SIP(paperback) while at a border's bookstore. The first thing that struck me was the similarity between me and the character David Qin. Let me explain. 1) I look like him 2) I was involved with a blond lesbian 3) I made out with my cousin once(incest) 4)I recently became religious....Anyways, I started reading your books because of David (and I've grown to love all your characters) and if he dies, I'll be very upset. But I know for the sake of dramatics, you probably will kill off David. :( I believe that deep down,
David's death will be a great way to finish off the series. Amen. |

I have to admit that, though I continue to follow SiP avidly, my interest has dwindled a bit with the (what I feel to be) dwindling (or perhaps simply maturing) chemistry between Katchoo and Francine. When I started reading the series I was bodily GRABBED by the passionate force I felt between them and how much it reminded me of a time in my own life. Now I love them all tenderly, as friends who have weathered a lot, but no longer as direct lines to my soul, pouring out their hearts or holding back with inevitable hope and trepidation.
I look forward to seeing how you continue to grow this story and these beautiful people you have created.
Masterfully done.

It's good to see Katchoo and Francine back together again, hopefully they stay that way.
I'm looking forward to seeing the ending, even if it is a sad one. After all, most of the great stories have sad endings, but leave it open, so that we can see more of these characters!
SIP forever! |

Hi Terry
Well well! After a long day at the office and finally getting some "down" time around 11:30p, I started reading what I just got from the comic store today a copy of SIP#79. As I finished and going to the VERY LAST PAGE... Something out of "Cinderella Man"... As Joe Gould (Braddock's trainer/mgr) said "TWO LEFTS AND A RIGHT! POP! POP! BAHMMMMM!"
What?
Excuse me?
Too much "War of the Worlds" and Tom Cruise?
SIP#90 is the END?
Terry, I am going to be in Houston on the 17th of Feb for the NBA All-Stars. Can I buy you dinner and drinks that Friday evening? You are welcome to bring Mrs Moore. It is the least I can do.
Cheers, Kung Tsu

Every Issue it gets closer to the end, and I really don't want it to end!
Terry, why do you have to make it so good?
My heart is breaking at the thought of losing David. Seeing Tambi again was good, I wondered what became of her after her and David hooked up.
And thank you for getting Kat and Fran back together. It was just depressing seeing them pine over each other. They belong together.
Casey and David was one thing I did NOT see coming. But I like it. I like that Casey finally stood up and asserted herself. Katchoo may love David, but not like Casey loves him, and Casey deserves to have a little happiness.
all in all it was a great issue!
Thanks Terry! |

Fantastic! The scene when David was carried off by Tambi...wow. And the image of her carrying David up the stairs and intor the unknown that makes a perfect metaphor for David's inevitable passing. |

I started reading comic books while dating a guy who ran a comic book shop. I found the usual collection of spandex covered, improbably muscled bodies dull although I did like Elektra and Spiderman. What grabbed me and addicted me for life were the "underground comics" such as the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, anything by R. Crumb and the truly amazing Omaha.
These were commentaries -- full of scathing wit and really great hits on the creators' own times. It was reality in the funny pages. A combo that couldn't be beat. And one that I dearly loved even after the relationship combusted.
Underground comics died or went boringly pornographic. Not that I mind adult themes, but when it has all the interest of a Las Vegas slot machine, ho hum.
Then I ran into Strangers In Paradise. Wow! The story of Francine, Katchoo and David grabbed me in so many ways. As I read this book and followed their own changes and developments, it paralleled my life in some ways and made me cry, hopping mad or just giggle. Reading SIP was like having a conversation with a really, smart, funny and cool set of people.
This latest issue continues to reward my expectations and -- of course -- bother me. Sometimes the fact that Katchoo, Casey and David are not 2-D "comic-book" characters annoys the hell out of me. I want them to be the same. Something I'm used to expecting. I hate it when the characters resist being in a box. But Terry Moore persists in drawing them as real-life, complex, changing people.
Darn you Terry Moore. Why can't David stay the self-less martyr .... darn, darn, darn. .... And then I grin, and say, well that's why I'm reading this, and not Superman 1000045, the 8,5678th death of Clark Kent.
Anyhow: Back to the issue. No spoilers. David continues to be the catalyst for everyone's change. He re-invents the whole idea of love. So does Casey. How does a so called horny cheerleader and a Christian, good boy reinvent messy, cool, sweaty and real-life love? Well, they just do. They take on Francine and Katchoo's fight, and then go and do more just by being their sweet, ol selves.
Take my word for it. Nuh, uh. Not saying anything more. Buy the issue.
And Terry: Thanks for this great ride. I love SIP, and I'll miss it, but I think it's a great idea for you to tell the story, and not get trapped by it. ... I can't wait to see what you hit next.

Hi Terry and Robyn,
I enjoyed issue 79. I really enjoyed Casey's conversation with Katchoo about it being her turn, and standing up to a fairly emotional Katchoo. I was also really excited to see Tambi! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've got such mixed feelings about the final story arc for SIP. I discovered SIP in 1998, and it became my favorite series (once I realized that there were multiple volumes - trying to figure out why volume 3 issue 8 didn't connect to volume 2 issue 7 is tough if you've missed that fact). Knowing that the series is ending makes me look forward to each issue more than the last as I know we're getting closer to the resolution of the story, but I feel worse after each knowing that soon I won't have another to look forward to. SIP is a pretty unique thing. I was having a discussion with an animnation art gallery owner this week who didn't like comic books because they "all feature women with huge bust lines and tiny waists." SIP has been a great counterpoint to that. The focus has always been on the characters and they've always been real. Even Casey, who is slightly more..ahem...proportioned is still anatomically realistic, and her figure is a part of her character.
The end of SIP won't be a loss to the genre because the work will still be out there. It's made a very unique statement. I await the ending with anticipation and trepidation. It's going to be fun.

As usual, great issue. I still want to see more Katchoo and Francine mending their ways, talking more (picking up on last issue's main theme), but awesome issue. The Jay and Silent Bob cameo were hilarious, and the way you handled Pia's anorexia was excellent. Curious about what the future holds for David. But most of all: IF THIS SERIES ENDS WITHOUT KATCHOO AND FRANCINE BEING TOGETHER I WILL CRY! |

Katchoo ought to be more careful with her hands, since she makes her living using them! *Chuckle* Also, I noticed the lipstick kiss marks on Katchoo's face after her "talk" with Casey. Very cute!
Francie and Brad's marriage is circling the toilet, and going down. Pity.
Katchoo's talk with Pia was so believable and honest, I wonder if you, Terry have had this experience.
Can't David find a cure at John's Hopkins or someplace? C'mon, I'm begging here!
Has Tambi been staying with David, taking care of him?? That's the vibe I got. Boy, she could pick me up and carry me to bed any day!
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back again in the pages of SIP! Snoochie Boochies! Hope they strike again!

Compared to the last issue, I thought this one was great. I especially liked how Katchoo was counseling Piza on what it's like to be a troubled teen. The older Katchoo is defintely wiser and a bit more likeable. Likewise, I also enjoyed how Casey handled Katchoo sudden outburst. She just smiles all the way, as if to say: " I still want to be friends but I'm not afraid of you one bit".
The only thing I didn't like was the last 4 pages being dedicated to David alone. While I know his condition is getting worse, I'd actually like to know what he's dying from. The image of Tambi carrying him upstairs at the end, was gorgeous though. Hopefully he'll finally let the cat out of the bag come next issue. |

Gutted that this wonderful story is coming to an end, especially as the recent editions have been so fantastic. Thought the way Casey handled Katchoos outburst was great. And my heart is breaking over David..
But Terry, any chance of a few clues about your next project(s)?
PS: I loved the little snippet of Jay & Silent Bob. |
